Espèces de taille petite ou moyenne avec un museau proéminent muni d’abajoues. Les membres antérieurs sont généralement plus courts que les postérieurs, plantigrades et munis de 5 doigts, avec des ongles plats. Elles possèdent des callosités fessières plus ou moins voyantes et une queue presque toujours bien développée mais jamais préhensile.
